FORGED FA20 ENGINES

Since its release in 2012, the FA20 engine used in both the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 has been widely criticised for its lack of power. Providing only 197bhp at 7000rpm, it can struggle to keep up with other, more powerful cars in its weight class. As a result the popularity of turbo kits and supercharger kits has increased rapidly over the past few years.

Here at Radix we understand the desire for more power and the FA20 engine platform is a great engine for forced induction. However to safely add forced induction to this engine, a number of modifications and improvements need to be added.

For most builds up to a power figure of 450bhp, we recommend a 'lightly' forged engine (see below for full details). For owners chasing higher power numbers a fully forged engine is required.

THE PROCESS

Each engine is fully stripped down and all internal components and tolerances are checked to factory specification. Refurbished or reground crankshafts are never as good as new, so we always use a brand new genuine Subaru crankshaft.

This is fitted back into the cleaned engine case using ACL Trimetal Reinforced Rod Bearings and KING Racing Main Bearings. A full new set of engine block bolts and head stretch bolts are used for reassembly and all internal bearings, seals, gaskets and bolts are replaced with OEM quality or better.

Forged 4340 chromoly steel H-beam con rods are then fitted ready for forced induction. Although not a necessity, we also recommend updated valve springs to increase the seat and open pressure.

THE RESULTS

Each engine is then refitted to our donor car to test that it is in full working order, filled with Millers competition oil and run for 1 hour to allow to get up to temperature. With everything working perfectly and the engine running smoothly, it is then removed, drained of fluids and ready to be shipped. We can even supply a video of your specific engine running before removal if required.

Supplied engine includes intake manifold, fuel rails, injectors, alternator, air con pump etc. Flywheel and clutch not included. We can also supply a full range of additional modifications and improvements to the engine if required. These include baffled oil sumps, low temperature thermostats, intake spacers, and many more. Just drop us a message to discuss your exact requirements.

Full removal and fitting services available on request.

"THAT IS FANTASTIC"

"That is fantastic. I've sent the video to my son. He has got quite emotional. He cannot wait to get his engine back."
